INFINITIVE – ПОСЛЕДУЮЩЕЕ действие

Try
ING-форма – ПРЕДПРИНИМАТЬ что-то в надежде изменить ситуацию
I tried taking some aspirin, but the pain didn’t go away.
Try logging off and logging on again.
Try speaking to the boss.
INFINITIVE – ПЫТАТЬСЯ, стараться
She was trying not to cry (Она старалась не плакать)
He tried to control his voice.

Mean
ING-форма – ОЗНАЧАТЬ
My new job will mean travelling all over the world.

Go on
ING-форма – ПРОДОЛЖИТЬ делать то, что делал
The teacher told everyone to be quiet, but they went on talking.
We really can’t go on living like this – we’ll have to find a bigger house.
He went on working until he was 91.
We can’t go on fighting like this.
INFINITIVE – начать ДЕЛАТЬ ЧТО-ТО ДРУГОЕ, не то, что до этого, перейти к чему-то другому
The teacher introduced himself and went on to explain about the course.

Afraid
ING-форма – бояться, что что-то ПРОИЗОЙДЁТ
David is afraid of falling off the ladder.

INFINITIVE – бояться СДЕЛАТЬ что-либо
David is afraid to climb the ladder.
I’m not afraid to tell them the truth.
Anxious
ING-форма – БЕСПОКОИТЬСЯ, переживать о чём-либо
Mark was anxious about presenting his report.
We are anxious about meeting the investor.
INFINITIVE – СТРЕМИТЬСЯ
ZedCo are anxious to increase their sales.
She was anxious to get home to open her presents.
I’m anxious to avoid the motorway at rush hour.
Ashamed
ING-форма – стыдиться того, что ПРОИЗОШЛО
I’m ashamed of getting such a low score.
She was ashamed of behaving in such a way.
INFINITIVE – стыдиться СДЕЛАТЬ что-либо
I’m ashamed to tell you what I scored in the test.
I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve never read any of his books.
Interested
ING-форма – ИНТЕРЕСОВАТЬСЯ чем-либо, БЫТЬ ЗАИНТЕРЕСОВАННЫМ
